Synthetic grass is vital to water conservation   by Brayan Peter

Synthetic grass is man made surface manufactured from synthetic materials, made to look like natural grass. Many clubs have installed synthetic grass surfaces, most commonly as part of an all-weather training capability. Artificial grass has many benefits like it is environment friendly. It is suitable even for roof gardens and swimming pool surroundings. These can last for upto ten years. It is also useful for elderly homeowners who find it difficult to maintain natural lawn. Artificial turf does not require cutting, watering, fertilizing, seeding, pesticides and no expensive equipment to purchase. It looks great in all seasons and has a natural grass finish. Artificial grass is highly UV resistant. It is ideal for pets and children.

Artificial turf is suitable for all the sports like football, hockey, rugby, tennis, cricket, netball, bowls etc. Most of the American football players prefer to play on artificial surfaces, instead of natural turf. The reason is these surfaces are designed thinking of players in mind therefore professional football teams are starting to change their fields towards synthetic turf. Artificial grass does not require carbon emissions from petrol driven lawn mowers. Pollution from water run off carrying chemicals into the drains is minimized.

One of the main reasons for installing artificial grass is reduction of water consumption, cost savings and environmental benefits. Lot of water is consumed in golf courses, sports field, commercial and residential areas, street medians, public spaces, parks, play grounds, and apartment buildings when natural grass is installed. A golf course may require a million gallons of water a day during summer. Much of the water may be soaked by pesticides, and fertilizers. Artificial grass does not require fertilizer, pesticides, mowing. According to a survey by U.S. Bureau of reclamation and Irvine Ranch water District, a residence area of about 750 square feet can save approximately 22,000 gallons of water per year if synthetic turf is installed. In many rural areas of southern California, well water is being used by many residents. In areas like Santa Clarita water had to be imported from reservoirs to keep up with demand. Because of water shortage and increase in water costs have lead people to move to synthetic grass instead of natural grass. Many areas like Georgia are facing water shortages, and areas like southwest and west coast regions are facing drought situation for several areas and Colorado River have drained of its vital water resource. Artificial grass has a tremendous lifespan, which can be recycled after its service has diminished. Since artificial grass has polyethylene fibers, it can be recycled very easily.
